"The Secret One” is a very personal snapshot of Al’s time in London.
The twelve songs on this album capture the emotion, groove and many friendships that were forged during his time there. An all-star line-up features guitarists Gus Isidore (Seal, Peter Gabriel), Dominic Miller (Sting, Phil Collins), Bobby Tench (Jeff Beck, Van Morrison), Slava Grigoryan and drummer Christian Eigner (Depeche Mode), amongst others.

Continental Shift resonates with a complex and assured touch of seasoned professionals, avoiding the temptation to overwhelm the listener. All tracks have been written by Al Slavik with the exception of the title track "Continental Shift", a composition by Grigoryan, and the Moorish flavoured opener "Bedouin Breakfast" which was written by both Al and Slava.

Both artists live for their art. Slava emigrated to Australia from Kazakhstan and has cut a swathe through the classical music world ever since. He signed his first recording contract at the age of 19 with Sony Music Entertainment Australia. His international performance career is peerless.

Singer, Songwriter, Musician and Producer, Al Slavik also hails from Europe. The Austrian bass virtuoso had huge success in Germany, Austria and Switzerland with his band Bass by Al. He became a sought-after session and touring performer in the competitive London music scene. His first collaboration with Slava began in 1996. The pair have since toured America, Japan, Australia and Europe.

Continental Shift presents a chemistry and technical virtuosity that is enticing. The intimate musical bond between these outstanding musicians is apparent in both the duo tracks as well as the more layered instrumentals and songs. Guest musicians include legendary UK drummer Phil Gould from Level 42.

"On the air" is Al´s first album recorded with his first band "Bass by Al" back in Vienna in 94.
After writing the songs on his 4-track he found the right musicians to realise his vision in a bandformat.
Al(voc,bass,Stick),Robert Altmann(guitar) and Nico Bernhard(drums) rehearsed for a couple of months before they played their first gig back in 1992. Many gigs followed and in 94 "On the Air" was recorded in the studio in the Vienna Konzerthaus.
The title track received heavy airplay in Austria and also made it onto a Hitbreaker-sampler that was released in Germany,Switzerland and Austria...

About Al Slavik: Over the years Al has played on hundreds of albums in Europe and the UK. Apart from his work as a Bass/Stickplayer he’s also an artist, composer and producer in his own right.

“‘Bass by Al’ has been many years in the making. Featuring various musical styles, different Bass techniques and Chapman Stick riffs the musical material was specifically created for ONE to ensure the best result possible.

For me it’s NOT about the ‘ultraclean sound’.... it’s rather the opposite! Whenever i get invited to a production, artists and producers are looking for something special and exciting, a different angle perhaps... and always something to make the music more ‘alive’. I gave it my best shot to achieve a simular result with this library and hope that you have as much fun using ‘Bass by Al’ as i had making it. I definately didn´t hold back ;-) “
